The 8th IT Regatta, now known as The Silicon Cup, took place in September 2007 and
attracted 55+ yachts, 650+ attendees and again raised large amounts for charity.

Several other industries host combination sailing and fundraising events, the most notable
being The Little Britain Cup aka The Builders Bowl thanks to its sponsoring community -
the construction industry. In 2004 The Little Britain Cup raised over £100,000 for
charity, that said the event has now been in existence for 16 years.

Entrants at the The Silicon Cup have been many and varied with the majority returning each
year. Competing teams include; manufacturers, Channel Partners, IT departments
and other related suppliers. The majority of the key industry players are represented
albeit in a variety of guises. Logos from Hewlett-Packard, Intel, IBM, Microsoft and Oracle
are all to be seen adorning the yachts. Growth in entries has been organic as illustrated
in the table below.

OBJECTIVES - The event has four core objectives:

INDUSTRY NETWORKING

To create an event, and an environment, to better facilitate vendor independent industry networking. There can be few better ways to bring so many players together in a way that trade shows and partner conferences simply can't. The format of the event provides opportunity to socialise broadly before and after racing as well as the opportunity to compete safely whilst afloat.

CORPORATE HOSPITALITY

Sailing is a great corporate hospitality activity as it provides a compelling focus in close quarters to a captive audience. By combining the racing activities with the various shore-side events, entrants may tailor their level of hospitality and indeed the associated costs. Professional skippers supplied with chartered boats enable people to enjoy the stirring experience of close quarter yacht racing in a large fleet despite their own levels of sailing prowess from complete novice to hardened enthusiast. The event has and will continue to prove to be a really excellent and highly memorable landmark event for the majority of delegates.

TEAM BUILDING
I
n the current economic climate many companies have reduced the time and money they invest in teambuilding. The Silicon Cup offers significant value from a team building perspective which can benefit client / supplier relations as much as inter company relations. Yacht racing requires co-ordination and co-operation at every level.

 PUTTING SOMETHING BACK
The fundraising element of the event is significant yet not the central focus. Our aim is to do something really worthwhile without
the surrounding activities becoming distracting from the other 3 focus areas. Historically every penny raised by the various
activities; entry fees, gala dinner, Irish raffle etc. is donated towards a small selection of charities.
