What is The Silicon Cup?
The Silicon Cup is the largest annual IT industry charity yachting regatta with over 55 yachts taking part in 2007 and around 700 people racing. Its open not only to the IT vendors, but also to IT departments.

Are there sponsorship opportunities?
There are multiple sponsorship opportunities available for 2008.

With over 700 people from around the IT industry at The Silicon Cup it provides an excellent opportunity to
promote your company to the industry. There are a number of opportunities for businesses to sponsor the event – providing
strong visibility and excellent branding. And your sponsorship ensures that more money is raised for charity. For more
information about sponsorship opportunities please call 02380 45 66 11 or email info@thesiliconcup.com

Can anyone take part?
It's organised by - and for - the IT industry. That includes not only the vendors but also IT Departments and others associated with our industry. Most participants are high-level industry professionals and big decision makers.

Is it popular?
Very! As the popularity of the event grows, places will become harder too get. To help reduce administration we appreciate that if you're thinking of taking part, that you get your entry form and deposit cheque in as soon as possible after entries open.

Is it all about racing?
For a few but not all!  There are plenty of excellent 'apres-sail' events. Lots of parties, late-night music and a good deal of drinking. It's a well-respected industry social event - and great fun!

I know nothing about sailing but wish to enter a boat?
That's no problem. If you would like help with your entry, please contact Simon Boulding of Britannia Corporate Events on
02380 458 900 or email info@thesiliconcup.com and we can assist you in organising your boat, skipper and complete event.

Does everyone sleep on the boats?
Most do from a point of convenience and socialising, but there are many B&B's and guest houses to stay in Cowes.

How good do crews have to be?
The emphasis is on fun and safety.  Whilst some of the yachts will be competing quite seriously, other yachts will just enjoy taking part – although competitive instincts tend to be not far below the surface in the IT Industry!  There will be a fully qualified skipper on all boats; the rest of the crew can be a mixture of skill levels.  Spinnakers often create most challenges on boats and subject to weather permitting all boats will have the option of using spinnakers!
